WHEELS

Our wheels, tires and bearings were pretty shot after years of sitting. We had to take it all apart, grind the rust and treat it, then use the POR-15 (yes, I wore gloves this time!) to coat it against future rust. We also installed brakes this time around, since I am towing with precious cargo on board! It was a great learning experience to replace the backing plate and hubs! Not so sure either of us liked packing the new bearing with grease, though....YUCK!

We started the exterior by removing the vinyl wrap I had put on for when my trailer was used in my Landscape Contracting business. MAN O PETE was that a difficult thigs to do! And what a mess, too! After the wrap removal was done, we moved the trailer under our carport roof. We built a robotic trailer mover from an electric wheelchair, to help our friend pull it by hand into its parking place! We are both pretty proud of our little robot! Once parked under the carport roof, we tackled the side panels. There was a good bit of corrosion under the aluminum sides that had to be removed and treated to prevent further issues. With all of the blemishes leftover, we decided to paint, which was quite a job on its own! The aluminum had a powder coated factory installed finish that had to be striped and prepped for the painting project.
